The Sennheiser IE8 in ear noise isolating headphones are one of the best ear bud style headphones on the market. The ie8 represents amazing technological innovation from Sennheiser, the world leaders in earphone technology. When I first tried these, I was totally blown away by the quality of sound I heard. It was like rediscovering my music collection. Little nuances that I had not noticed before became clear. The quality of my music experience was massively improved.

Included ear adapters ensure a perfect fit, isolating you from the surrounding environment for the greatest sound experience. The quality of finish on these little headphones is amazing, a brushed aluminum case protects your headphones and includes a small silica gel compartment to keep your pride and joy dry. A little over the top some might say, but when you are paying several hundred dollars for the product, these little touches demonstrate the thought that Sennheiser have put into protecting your investment. These sennheiser headphones comes with a range of silicon and foam ear tips. These will be fine in the short term, but you should consider buying some slightly better quality tips when you can. No product is perfect, and the quality of the tips do let the product down a little. A cheap upgrade in this department will improve the noise isolation and comfort considerably. Try a set of Sony or Ultimate Ears tips and feel the difference.

Sennheiser have definitely tried their best to create a great looking product package, but the poor tips and slightly over the top storage case (beautiful as it is) have taken a little away from what is a fantastic earphone. Although some of the specs seem incredible such as noise attenuation to 26dB, the isolation quality of the Sennheiser ie8 is not as good as some of the cheaper models on the market.

Sound Quality Of The Sennheiser IE8

The IE8′s offer a pretty good sound quality, and I say this with a warning. On initial opening of the package, one can be a little disappointed with the sound, you kind of expect more for the money. After a few hours of use however, I found that the sound improved dramatically. The bass quality is really excellent and the midrange is as good as any other in ear headphone that I’ve trialled. Instruments and vocals are all treated well, without an over emphasis on either. I tried them with a variety of genres, from classical, to bluegrass, to heavy rock, they performed admirably in all genres, and from quiet to loud. I loved the quality and clarity of the treble range, it had a really crisp feel to it. After many hours of use that has become more of a natural treble, but still sounds excellent.

Conclusion

All in all, the Sennheiser ie8 noise isolating headphones are pretty damn good. There are a few issues that Sennheiser would have been better addressing, than spending all that money on the machined case. Better earbud tips should have been a must, but luckily, they can be upgraded cheaply anyway. I would certainly stick my neck out and say that these IEM’s are some of the best you can get. They are not cheap, but if you are looking for arguably some of the best in-ear phones on the market, these are right up there. And the 2 year warranty goes some way to demonstrating how confident Sennheiser are with these, one of their flagship earphones. I travel a lot and wanted some good noise canceling headphones. A friend put me onto the JVC’s and when we went into a noisy room I was absolutely astounded. They are comfortable and light, and I find the sound quality is actually better than the expensive Bose QC3′s which I tried. I am so happy with the quality of these headphones, and even happier that I bought them instead of the Bose.
